sticky and sweaty

its saturday evening and hot as hell. as ive never been to hell, i googled it. this is what i got:

Luke 16:24
"So he called to him, 'Father Abraham', have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.'

i imagine this to be flesh burning hot, which is about what the temperature is inside my house. lol kidding, but it IS warm. it takes until 4:00 am for my room to cool off and by 7:00 am it starts to heat up again. ive given up on doing my hair or wearing makeup at this house, and i made the brutal mistake of doing laundry this afternoon. the heat from the dryer turned the bathroom and front room into a sauna. whoops?

work has been going well, everyone is super nice and welcoming. not sure if its an aussie thing or an archaeologist thing. ive been doing orientations and trainings, and learned how to use autocad! check out my first site map:
it doesnt look like much, but that took me 3 hours to do haha. still learning, dont judge :) there is a coffee shop next to my office and i went over the other morning and asked for an iced coffee. at home this means black drip coffee over ice....here it means espresso + milk + ice cream, all mixed together over ice. who the hell knew? it was definitely a delicious surprise, but i probably wont be getting them all that often since things here are expensive anyway, and i just cant justify a $7 coffee. if i am spending $7 on anything id rather it be beer lol

thursday afternoon i got to meet my new roommate, noirin. she's from ireland and has a super thick accent. its like hanging out with the leprechaun from the lucky charms commercial...except she's not offering me cereal. kidding, but she is really nice, friendly, and funny. i definitely lucked out. when she got here it was like watching a mirror of my own experience when i first arrived in australia. she was tired and jet-lagged, then excited, then super homesick and lonely. i took her down to the main part of freo and showed her the shops, cafes, pubs, and where the grocery stores and bottle shops were. she kept telling me how grateful she was to have me here as her guide and kept telling me how brave i was for doing all of this on my own before she got here. its nice to have a friend here who is in the same situation as me and can relate to everything im going through. i can tell we're going to get along just fine :)

friday i rode the bike to work. i took a different route that avoided the hill of death (after further inspection, it is in fact, a huge ass hill. nice to know i wasnt hallucinating the topography). got to work just fine, but was still a sweaty mess. good thing i work with urban hippies who also bike, so it wasnt that big of deal. i ended up going home early because i had heartburn of death and couldnt focus on anything. after shovelling in some old man candy (thats what shaner calls tums lol) i felt waay better and walked with noirin down to grab some dinner. we decided to see what freo had to offer, so we did a mini pub crawl. we started off with beers at the sail and anchor, then had dinner at rosie o'gradys, and finished at moondyne joes (read the info about the legend of moondyne joe, the guy wore a kangaroo-skin cape...RAD!).

we were walking home and i found a tree that had a sweater on it! not that i judge against trees wearing sweaters, its just slightly comical to me since its hot as fuck here and im sure that given the choice, the tree would rather be naked lol.
had a pretty casual saturday morning. woke up, had some iced coffee (store bought kind that is cheaper and slightly less delicious...win some loose some), and got to skype with all my loves at home. by FAR the best part of my week! loved seeing my shaner, even though he was nothing more than a floating head for the first part of our convo haha
turns out, if you reboot your computer, close excess programs, and do some old fashioned yelling at your router, your internet connection works WAY better! love that i can still be across the world and see my sugar and hangout on friday night. he even got to meet noirin! offered her a shot, since him and steve were shooting captain morgan. very thoughtful dear lol.

i also got to chat with my dad, see my brother, and confuse little jonesy. i was talking to dad and he let indy up on his lap, and soon as he heard my voice his ears perked up and he was all alert trying to figure out where i was. so cute. wish i couldve been there to give him real loves. my mom is out of town on a fancy retreat in arizona, so i'll have to wait until next week to chat with her. love you mama, hope youre having a good time :)

noirin and i had such a good time friday night, we decided to go out again. im just so stoked for the company, its nice to have a buddy after being on your own. plus i love walking around freo, it has so much character and history

we walked down to little creatures, a local brewery, and had lunch on their patio. we did some quality people watching and gossipping. although it was so hot, im pretty sure i was floating in leg sweat on my chair (nasty, and slightly over-exaggerated, but still sorta true).
then we got some ice cream and had some beach time. such a change in scenery going from snowy mountains to this, but i could get used to it :) love the color of the indian ocean.

came back home to dantes inferno, and decided it might be a good time to start looking for a new place to live. found two great spots that we're checking out tomorrow: http://perth.gumtree.com.au/c-Unit-House-Real-Estate-house-unit-apartment-rental-townhouse-villa-Fully-furnished-townhouse-South-Fremantle-Beaconsfield-W0QQAdIdZ342256480, and http://perth.gumtree.com.au/c-Unit-House-Real-Estate-house-unit-apartment-rental-apartment-unit-Smart-well-located-apartment-W0QQAdIdZ338547355. wish me luck eh?

as for now, i plan on doing what i do best...being sweaty and sticky inside my house haha. to everyone at home that i love....
